Dr. Mark H. Getelman is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI), specializing in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the knee and shoulder. Renowned for his clinical excellence and leadership, he is a member of the Hall of Fame for Los Angeles Super Doctors and has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor — an honor reserved for the top 5% of physicians nationwide, acknowledging both exceptional clinical expertise and outstanding patient care.
Originally from Miami, Dr. Getelman earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Boston University, followed by a fellowship in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at SCOI.
Since joining SCOI, Dr. Getelman has served as Co-Director of the institute’s prestigious Sports Medicine Fellowship, training more than 140 fellows and advancing the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. As Managing Partner of SCOI, he has played a key role in expanding the practice and leading its strategic affiliation with UCLA Health.
A prolific author and educator, Dr. Getelman co-authored a leading textbook on shoulder arthroscopy and has lectured internationally, sharing his expertise with physicians around the world. He has also served for over a decade on the Board of Directors of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the largest subspecialty society in orthopedics, and was elected by his peers to serve as President from 2021 to 2022.
Dr. Getelman has been happily married to his wife, Karen, for 37 years, and together they are proud parents of three children.
Michael Hochman, MD, MPH, is a board-certified internist who graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2006 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance. During his medical training, he completed a month-long rotation at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, supported by a grant from Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
He previously served as Medical Director for Innovation at AltaMed Health Services — the nation’s largest independent Federally Qualified Health Center. From 2015 to 2021, he was the inaugural Director of the USC Gehr Center for Health Systems Science and Innovation at the Keck School of Medicine. From 2021 to 2024, Dr. Hochman was the founding CEO of Healthcare in Action, which grew to become the largest homeless healthcare provider on the West Coast, operating 18 mobile medical teams across six California counties. In 2024, he launched Starfield Primary Care, a clinician-led medical group that provides mobile medical services to homeless and housing-insecure patients, frail homebound older adults, as well as office-based primary care in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Dr. Hochman is the founding series editor of 50 Studies Every Doctor Should Know, published by Oxford University Press, and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed medical publications. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has been an active member of the Healthcare Network of Jewish Federation Los Angeles and currently serves as its co-chair.
Dr. Hochman is a proud member of both Chabad of Studio City and Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue. He lives in Studio City, with his wife and three children, and remains a loyal (and unapologetic) Boston sports fan.
