Anila Ali is a Pakistani-American educator, civil rights advocate, and nationally recognized leader in Muslim-Jewish solidarity. As founder of the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council (AMMWEC), she works to empower Muslim women, build interfaith trust, and counter extremism through education and community engagement. A longtime civic leader and two-time Democratic National Convention delegate, she has championed women's leadership and bridge-building across communities throughout her career.
Following the October 7th attacks, Anila spoke out publicly in support of Jewish women and families, condemning terror and calling for moral courage — despite significant personal cost. She subsequently led a delegation of Muslim women to Israel to bear witness, elevate the voices of survivors, and call global attention to the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
Anila received the White Rose Society Award — named after the brave German student resistance group that opposed the Nazis and symbolizing the power of conscience over silence — at the 2025 Lion of Judah Conference for her solidarity with the Jewish people after October 7th. Today, she continues to be a powerful advocate for peace, shared humanity, and genuine partnership between Muslim and Jewish communities. We are honored to bring Anila into our Los Angeles Jewish community to share her unwavering moral courage and staunch support of the Jewish people with all of you.
Karen Feinstein Michiels is a second-generation Angeleno who has lived in Los Angeles for her entire life and is a graduate of UCLA. She grew up attending Wilshire Boulevard Temple and spent her summers at Camp Hess Kramer. Her grandparents and parents infused her life experiences with the Jewish values of philanthropy, service, and tikkun olam.
Before Karen’s involvement in JFEDLA, she was President of Doria Hadassah and remains a Keeper of the Gate of Hadassah. When her daughters were growing up, she was an active member of Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, and is currently a member and supporter of Wilshire Boulevard Temple.
Karen's life changed when she decided to join a JFEDLA Women’s mission to Israel, where she not only learned about the tremendous impact JFEDLA has in Israel but also met a wonderful group of women who have now become close friends. This experience lit a passion in her to commit more fully to JFEDLA’s work. Karen became a Lion of Judah, served on the Sylvia Weisz Women’s Philanthropy Cabinet and various other SWWP committees, and has continued to travel on women’s missions, attend Lion of Judah conferences, and host JFEDLA events at her home.
Karen believes strongly in family and the importance of passing on Jewish values and traditions to her children and grandchildren. She is proud that her daughters have become engaged in JFEDLA as well. Her daughter Alisa is a member of the Entertainment, Media & Communications Network, chair of the ELI Leadership Institute, and has been part of several JFEDLA missions to Israel. Her daughter Diana recently became a Lion of Judah and is currently very active in JFEDLA’s Legal Network.
Karen is proud of her four grandchildren: Jonathan, Ashley, Dylan, and Andrew. She has been a successful realtor for over 47 years in the San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles, and now enjoys spending much of her time in the desert while continuing to stay involved in JFEDLA.
A Los Angeles native, Jaymie Rubin graduated from Emory University in 2017 as an honors student with three degrees — Business, Arts Management and Marketing, and Art History. While at Emory, she served as President and Vice President, respectively, of two dance teams, as well as Treasurer of her sorority.
Upon graduation, she spent nearly a year in Florence, studying Italian Art History, perfecting her Italian, and traveling across Europe. In 2018, she began working at Artist & Brand, a branding and endorsement talent agency, as an assistant. Within a year and a half, she was promoted to agent, and over the last seven and a half years, she has closed over $17 million in deals spanning commercials, social programs, and 360-degree endorsement contracts for celebrity clients.
In 2023, Jaymie joined the Emerging Philanthropists Cabinet at JFEDLA, where she helps plan and co-chair events and connects young Jewish professionals. She proudly became a Lion of Judah in January at the Lion Conference in Atlanta. This August, she realized her years-long goal of serving on the National Young Leadership Cabinet. She also serves on JFEDLA’s Campus Life Committee.
Family is extremely important to Jaymie, as is the concept of L’dor V’dor. She is especially close to her mom, Elisa (the inspiration for her involvement with JFEDLA); her father, Steve (the inspiration for her love of sports); her brother, Darren; and her fiancé, Daniel (the inspiration for her love of life and who she can’t wait to marry next year).
