Michael Feldman

2024 Ben-Gurion Award Recipient

Michael Feldman is very proud to be part of four generations of membership at El Caballero Country Club. His father, Barney Feldman, was an original member. His son, Jonathan, the current club president, proudly has his grandfather’s club number. His grandson, Griffin, has been the El Cab Junior Club Golf champion twice in his career.

Michael was taught tzedakah from a very young age. His grandfather, Joseph H. Weitzenfeld, was the founder of two synagogues in the Valley, Valley Beth Shalom and Temple Ner Maarav. Michael’s parents, Sylvia and Barney, were instrumental in teaching him to “Pay it forward.” They instilled the value that if you are fortunate to have success, always give back. Barney was the founder and first “King” of the Valley Jesters and Sylvia was the founder and first president of the Valley Group of Many Services in support of raising funds to fight MS.

Michael was very involved with Temple Ner Maarav, serving in many capacities including chair of the Board of Trustees. He has served as campaign chair for the Jewish Federation Valley Alliance. Michael and his wife of 55 years, Lynne, have chaired several Major Gift Dinners. He has also served on the Federation Board of Directors. He has been a member of our Federation El Cab Committee for many years, along with being actively involved in the support of Israel through his work at AIPAC.

Michael is the proud father of Melissa (Dean Shalit), Jonathan (Debbie) Feldman, and Kimberly (Scott) Margolis. He is the very proud grandfather of nine grandchildren.

Jonathan Feldman

2024 Ben-Gurion Award Recipient

Jonathan’s Jewish identity was built on the generations before him. His great grandfather was a founding member of the synagogue Jonathan attended as a child. His grandfather, a founding El Caballero member, was instrumental in the continued success of the temple where both Jonathan and his father Michael had their bar mitzvahs. Jonathan has a strong Jewish connection to El Cab, as he celebrated his bar mitzvah there in 1984.

Jonathan was taught the meaning of giving back from his family. Soon after graduating from UCSB in 1993, he joined the Guardians and helped with the formation of the Young Men’s division in 1994. Jonathan served as committee member of the Fashion Industries Guild which supports Cedars-Sinai. Jonathan volunteered for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and went through the 22-week academy to become a reserve deputy, then worked in a patrol unit. Jonathan also served as the fundraising co-chair for the annual fund at his children’s school.

Professionally, Jonathan runs a four-generation family business which has two divisions. One supplies textile products to the sewn products industry. The other supplies food paper packaging to supermarkets and restaurants throughout the country.

Jonathan has been a member of El Cab his entire life. He joined the El Cab Board in 2018. He served as the golf handicap chair, treasurer, and is currently in his second term as club president. Jonathan has supported Jewish Federation Los Angeles for over two decades, including his time on the Federation El Cab Committee.

Jonathan lives in Encino with his amazing wife Debbie and with their two golden retrievers Bowie and Cooper. They also have three children: Taylor, Griffin, and Emmy.
