Andrea Sonnenberg strongly believes in starting the mental health conversation early. She will share helpful tips on how to address the mental health crisis with young people using simple low-tech solutions such as her new book, Panda’s Helping Paw. Through reading this story, children learn that we all feel sad sometimes — and some feel sad more than others — but it is possible to heal, much as we heal from physical ailments. The book is a tool to teach children how to understand their own emotional issues and show support for others who are struggling. It helps them develop insight, problem-solving skills, and empathy.

Diane Shader Smith has had a vibrant career as a writer, speaker, publicist, and fundraiser with an extensive roster of clients that includes products, personalities, services, and celebrities. After her daughter, Mallory Smith, died at age 25 from a superbug infection secondary to her cystic fibrosis, Diane’s work has centered around Mallory’s posthumously published memoir, Salt in My Soul, the documentary of the same name, storytelling to improve health outcomes, the power of the patient voice, and the urgent global health crisis antimicrobial resistance poses.
