On February 13th, our Federation’s Los Angeles Jewish Abilities Center (LAJAC) invites young adults with diverse abilities to join us at Shalom Institute’s ShemeshFarms for a special day of workshops. In celebration of Jewish Disabilities Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM), choose from three sessions* to learn new skills and socialize with others:

Farming Arts

This hands-on experiential workshop introduces participants to gardening, farming, and composting — and how these activities relate to our earth. Students will work with soil and learn how farming elements enrich our environment.

Time: 2:00-3:00 PM
Led by: Davis Watson, ShemeshFarms Head Farmer
Class size: 15 spots available
Notes: Participants should dress comfortably and be prepared to work with soil and get dirty.

Culinary Arts

Young adults with diverse abilities will get to use their chopping, grating, pouring, and mixing skills and explore culinary techniques focusing on a variety of vegetables.

Time: 4:00-5:00 PM
Led by: Ben Herschfeld
Class size: 6 spots available
Notes: Participants should wear comfortable shoes

Ceramic Arts

Explore art and design through clay in this exciting and interactive ceramics class. Celebrate Tu B’Shevat, the new year for trees and nature, as we create clay flowerpots to showcase new plantings.

Time: 4:00-5:15 PM
Led by: Tamar Forman, experienced ceramics instructor who has taught in Israel and the U.S. for more than 15 years.
Class size: 12 spots available
Notes: Participants should wear comfortable clothes that they do not mind getting dirty.

When: Thursday, February 13, 2020; Workshops starting at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM
Where: ShemeshFarms, 24855 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu 90265
