Amos Yadlin is the Director of Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Israel’s leading think tank on issues of national strategy and security. General Yadlin served for over 40 years in the Israel Defense Force (IDF) in several roles, such as Chief of Defense Intelligence, military attaché to the United States, and commander of the IDF Military Colleges and Israel’s National Defense College.
His distinct operational record includes his role as Deputy Commander of the Israeli Air Force, which encompassed the command of two fighter squadrons and two airbases. As a fighter pilot, Yadlin conducted over 250 combat missions behind enemy lines. He fought in the Yom Kippur War; Operation Peace for Galilee; and Operation Tamuz, the destruction of the Iraqi nuclear reactor “Osirak.”
In late 2015, Gen. Yadlin was chosen by Israel’s Labor party as its candidate for the position of Defense Minister ahead of that year’s national elections.
Yadlin holds a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a B.A. in economics and business administration from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
