We hope you can join us at BAR Center at the Beach, where we will hear from three experts: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Eve Lahijani; Professor and IBD Enterprise Director at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Jonathan Braun; and our very own HPN Committee Member, Nathalie Shapiro, a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, who will facilitate the conversation.

A little bit more about our panelists:

Dr. BraunA native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Braun was raised in Los Angeles, where he studied violin, and continues to pursue his interests in musical performance and poetry. After completing his studies at Stanford University, Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Whitehead Institute, he joined the faculty at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he served as chair of pathology and laboratory medicine. In 2019, he joined the Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, to study human cohort-based biology.

His recent activities included participant or principal investigator roles at the NIH Human Microbiome Project 2, the CCF Microbiome Consortium, the CORALE SeroNet National Cancer Institute consortium, and the NIDDK IBD Genetics Consortium. The work he did has contributed significantly to the understanding of microbiome composition and function, mechanisms of pre-disease and disease activity states, and genome-wide targets of anti-epithelial autoimmunity.

 

 

Eve LahijaniEve Lahijani is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She has a TEDx talk entitled Trust Your Hunger and Make Peace with Food.  On her YouTube channel and through her private practice, she helps people around the world struggling with eating disorders.  Eve’s non-diet approach helps her clients heal their relationship with food and live in alignment with their body's wisdom.  

 

 

Nathalie ShapiroNathalie Shapiro is a licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist based in Los Angeles California. She has earned a bachelor’s degree from Bard College, a master’s in Vedanta Philosophy from the Vedanta Academy, and a master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, graduating with honors from Emperor's College. After living in India for 5 years, where she studied Vedic Philosophy, Ayurveda, and Yoga, Nathalie returned to Los Angeles and co-founded a non-profit organization to teach free self-development philosophy courses. In her clinical work, Nathalie specializes in mental health, pain management and women’s health. Along with her work in healthcare, Nathalie is passionate about Jewish community and civic engagement. She is currently a Fellow with the Federation’s New Leaders Project and a member of the Federation’s Health Professionals Network committee. She also runs monthly Rosh Hodesh groups for Jewish women in Los Angeles.
