The Karsh Family Social Service Center

Feed the needy at The People Concern in Santa Monica! Together with volunteers from The Karsh Family Social Service Center, Wilshire Boulevard Temple, and the broader community, we’ll assemble sandwiches and pack lunch bags for individuals facing homelessness and food insecurity. Then, we’ll distribute the food along with a cup of hot coffee, a bagel or pastry, and a warm welcome.

Volunteers must be ages 10 and over, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Metered parking is available on 5th Street and 7th Street. The Metro stops at 5th and Colorado, around the corner. Paid parking structures are located a few blocks away.

Sandwich assembly begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.; Please arrive with enough time to check in, hear the brief introduction, and begin on time; Distribution wraps up at 11:30 AM. We ask that volunteers plan to attend for the entire time.

The Karsh Family Social Service Center hosts this program every Sunday at The People Concern, our collaborator organization. The People Concern provides integrated services to some of the most vulnerable populations in need of assistance, including individuals who are chronically homeless, dealing with severe mental or physical illness or substance addiction, victims of domestic violence, and challenged youth.
Alexandria House

Time: 10:30 AM–1:00 PM

Join us at Alexandria House for a host of activities with the residents: cook and eat lunch, bake cookies with the kids, help sort donations, and create memory boxes for the youth.

Please feel free to bring a donation of laundry detergent.

Volunteers must be age 10 and over, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please ask before taking pictures of any of the residents.

Safe Place for Youth (SPY)

Address: 2469 Lincoln Boulevard, Venice 90291
Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Help us sort donations to the Clothing Closet, make hygiene kits, beautify the drop-in center, and learn about SPY members and the education and employment programs they so gratefully utilize.

For volunteers ages 18 and over. Please dress for cleaning and painting, and feel free to bring clothing donations for the SPY Clothing Closet.

Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood.

Beit T’Shuvah

Time: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM — Making lunch; 12:00–2:00 PM — Distributing lunch

Make sandwiches and burritos for the homeless with Beit T'Shuvah residents and stay for an optional second shift to hand out the lunches to the needy in surrounding neighborhoods.

Volunteers can bring a can of food to donate for SOVA. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but please note that some of the discussions revolve around addiction and mental health.

People Assisting the Homeless (PATH)

Address: 1824 4th Avenue, Los Angeles 90019
Time: 9:30 AM–12:00 PM

Volunteers ages 22-40, use your creativity and energy to help remodel and redecorate the PATH Family Solutions Center — and make it a more pleasant space for the single moms and children who live there and for those nearby who are at risk of homelessness.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing for building and cleaning.

Gift cards and art supplies as donations to the families are welcome and appreciated.

If you have toolkits/tools at home (i.e. hammers, screwdrivers, etc.), please bring them with you for use that day.

Due to limited parking on weekends, carpooling or Uber/Lyft is highly encouraged! Some street parking is available on 4th or Washington.

After volunteering, join us for a deeper discussion about your volunteer experience and a chance to mingle over coffee and a light bite. Location provided after confirming registration.

L’Dough V’Dough

Address: Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH), 100 South The Grove Drive, Los Angeles 90036
Time: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM

Join us as we braid and bake challah with Holocaust survivors while hearing their remarkable stories. Challah will be donated after the event.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but please note that some content may be uncomfortable or disturbing for young children.
