Nancy Lushing Greenstein

Nancy was raised in a compassionate and philanthropic home by Jerry and Gloria Lushing, who supported several Jewish causes including The Jewish Federation. It was natural for her to carry on the legacy and dedicate her time and heart to the many facets of philanthropy that the Federation provides to our community.

Nancy first became involved in her own right in 1989 when she led an outreach campaign for the Young Women’s Division (YWD), soon after which she co-chaired her first YWD Luncheon. In 2004, Nancy became a Lion of Judah and has subsequently traveled to four international conferences. In 2009, she received the Doris Factor Young Leadership Award, has co-chaired Hillcrest Country Club outreach events, Lion of Judah Luncheons and acted as a Sylvia Weisz Women’s Philanthropy Vice Chair.

One of Nancy’s other passions is Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she has been a member of the Board of Governors since 2001. She has served in several capacities and has volunteered at the hospital for the past seven years.

She married Ian Greenstein in 2015, living in Westwood, they have five children: Rachel, Steven, Andrew, Daniel and Eli. Nancy enjoys life by reading, playing Mahjong, time with friends and family and traveling while volunteering at The Karsh Center and LA Regional Food Bank.

Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt

Deborah Lipstadt is the Dorot Professor of Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, and most recently, nominated by President Biden as State Department Special Envoy on antisemitism. If confirmed by the Senate confirmation, she will hold the rank of Ambassador. She has published and taught about the Holocaust and antisemitism for close to 40 years. Her book Antisemitism: Here and Now was published in January 2019.

She is probably most widely known for the libel lawsuit David Irving brought against her in 1996 for calling him a Holocaust denier. A 10-week trial resulted in an overwhelming victory for Professor Lipstadt. Her TED talk about the trial has received over one million views, and the BAFTA-nominated movie Denial — starring Rachel Weisz and Tom Wilkinson with a screenplay by David Hare — tells the story of the legal battle. The film is based on her book History On Trial: My Day in Court With A Holocaust Denier (recently reissued as Denial). At Emory, Lipstadt directs the website known as HDOT (Holocaust Denial on Trial — www.hdot.org), which contains a complete archive of the legal proceedings and provides answers to frequent claims made by deniers.

She has written several other books on the topic of the Holocaust, including Holocaust: An American Understanding, The Eichmann Trial, and Beyond Belief: The American Press and the Coming of the Holocaust.

Professor Lipstadt is frequently quoted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, the Forward, and Tablet. She regularly appears on BBC, CNN, and PBS. Professor Lipstadt was a historical consultant to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She has held presidential appointments to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council under Presidents Clinton and Obama and was asked by President George W. Bush to represent the White House at the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. She was part of a committee that advised Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on matters of religious freedom abroad.
