According to the Midrash, the pomegranate contains 613 seeds — corresponding to the precise number of mitzvot in the Torah. It is only fitting that we have adopted the fruit — a physical representation of responsibility, sustenance, and nourishment — as the symbol of our society made up of generous women who build and sustain Jewish L.A. with their gift of $1,800 to our Federation’s Annual Campaign.

Join Sylvia Weisz Women’s Philanthropy via Zoom for our annual Pomegranate Society Event on Wednesday, September 9th, at 11:00 AM featuring Dr. Barbara Natterson-Horowitz. The esteemed cardiologist, psychiatrist, professor, and author will discuss Wildhood: What Animal Adolescents Can Teach Us About Growing Up Human, connecting her research on adolescents across species to challenges in human life — leading us to a better understanding of ourselves and our health.

Preview our speaker’s presentation!

Couvert: $18 per person; all registrants will receive a copy of Dr. Natterson-Horowitz's book Wildhood: The Astounding Connections between Human and Animal Adolescents, to be delivered after the event

If you have any questions regarding how to join this virtual experience, please contact Sylvia Crump at SCrump@JewishLA.org or (323) 761-8225.

About our speaker:

B.N. Horowitz is a cardiologist and psychiatrist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is the New York Times bestselling author of Zoobiquity and was the 2019 Nobel Conference Keynote. Her research focuses on the behavior and biology of wild animal species, which she connects to challenges in human life. Her latest book, Wildhood, examines the transition to independence across species to better understand human adolescence. Her newest research is focused on breast cancer, menopause, and female sexuality in other species to better understand these issues in our lives as female humans.
